Customer Rating: Summary: Not too bad especially for price, but could be better.. Comment: The Wii is a great system, but the one thing that does indeed leave a lot to be desired is how fast the batteries die on the Wii Remotes.
So I knew it was time to find another solution besides going through packs of batteries every now and then or having to take the batteries out all the time to recharge them. Enough was enough.
Enter the EZ Gear Wii Remote Recharger. Seemed like it was worth a shot and easy enough to use. So I decided to go for it.
And after a few weeks of using it my feelings on it is pretty mixed. For the price I paid, I can't complain too much or expect more than I did get from them so far but I can also say I hoped for a tad better experience with them then I have had so far.
When the item arrived I was happily surprised that it came with not one but TWO battery packs that could be used for two different remotes. Not bad for the price paid.
Now getting them into the remotes themselves, is another story. After a lot of pushing and positioning and pushing and pressing and angling and hoping.. they both finally went into the remotes I have. One though had to be put back in again as it still wasn't working right. But after the initial annoyance of getting them in they are good to go.
You plug the recharger base into the back of your Wii console with the included USB wire that comes with it and you put the wii remote with the rechargeable battery right into the base and as your Wii is on it is recharging the battery in the remote. Seems nice and easy.
Again too bad it has to be positioned just just right for the battery in the remote to hit the contacts that it has to be against to charge the battery and get the red light that tells you its charging. Just have to jiggle it around a bit and not touch it once the light is red finally but just plopping it in won't do. You will have to move it about and hope you can get that sweet spot that will have it light up to recharge. When the light turns blue the battery is charged and you are ready to go.
The last complaint is that the battery life I have been getting on a full charge has not been long at all. I was expecting maybe a week ok maybe even a few days .. but really Im getting about one days play out of each remote before the battery starts to run low again.
Sure its great that I don't have to change my batteries anymore and it charges as I play with the other remote but I was hoping for a better over all experience with this and a longer life on each charge.
For now its fine as I get a few hours play out of it and thats great and its worth the small price you pay if thats all you need it for but I probably will be looking for something a bit better and longer lasting and just better quality. This is pretty low frills and you get what you pay for as they say.
Its not bad but I wish I had known it wouldn't be as easy and enjoyable an experience with it all as I had thought it would when I decided to try this path to help prevent throwing out batteries. Regular batteries sometimes would last 3-4 weeks at least. To have to recharge these though almost every day seems like a bad investment.
Ill still go with it though for now as its not so bad to deal with but if you are looking for a replacement to your battery troubles this may not be the exact item to go with. Try one of the alternatives out there as they may be better built and longer lasting then these have been.
They work though and that at least is a good thing. And they are fine for what they are. But I think next time spending the extra 10 bucks for a better company version of these maybe money well spent. Customer Rating: Summary: A Rechargable Solution That Works Comment: I'm always suspicious of third party solutions for consoles... especially for Nintendo consoles. I've been burned time and again on "Company X" solutions for consoles. So, my purchase of this item (I bought two) without really knowing too much about it was extremely sketchy.
Well, I'm happy to say it really does work. Right out of the box, my wife replaced the battery covers with these and dropped the controllers into the bays and Voila, no need to keep a ridiculous amount of AA's in the house!
For the price I purchased them for, it's already paid for itself in battery savings. I've not used any other solution, but these have worked out for my family. And we play the Wii religiously. And as a Bonus, the Blue/Red LED lights on the front (the two red lightning-bolts you see in the pic) are almost hypnotizing.
If you found this item for a good price, definitely get it. Customer Rating: Summary: Works for me Comment: Maybe some of the confusion is coming from the fact that the Wii has to be on in order for the charger to work. That wasn't readily apparent to me, and since I got that squared away, this hasn't given me any big problems. Customer Rating: Summary: Reliable charger Comment: I have a nyko dual charger and added this one because I have three wiimotes. It seems like it holds a charge as well as the nyko charging station.
Its most significant flaw is that it plugs into the wii. It's getting a little crowded back there. Customer Rating: Summary: It works great IMO Comment: Yeah, its a little tricky getting the battery to fit for it to charge. I was pretty upset until I figured out that you have to mess with it to fit just right. But with a little jiggling the light shows red, meaning its charging. I bought one to try it out and had to buy another one a month later. That and had some friends wanting one, because the battery life of the wii remote is terrible. This product works like a charm for me. That and its a bargain. Id spend this much on two packs of batteries that would last me a little over a month. Just buy it.
