Customer Rating: Summary: Gooerfully creative! Comment: This is the most intriguing, creative and addictive puzzle games I have played in a long time. I am always on the look out for GOOD puzzle games and this one really hit the mark. Even my 18 year old daughter was so intrigued that we played several episodes together. Even after we beat the game, we have been going back and replaying several of our favorites and trying to hit the "OCD" challenge. This is a thoroughly enjoyable game and I highly recommend it for a unique puzzle experience. Bring on more goo balls! Customer Rating: Summary: I'm in love! Comment: There are so many wonderfully composed, exultant reviews for World of Goo that I almost did not pitch my own two cents in but I couldn't resist.
This game is totally original, there is nothing like it in any game genre and it is so heartwarming and *stunning* it's a must-have. I am a grown adult and yet I've played this game until my eyes were bleary and on the verge of retinal fatigue. This labor of love is the indie brainchild and singular progeny of just TWO guys; Kyle Gabler being responsible for the art, design, story (even the sweeping, emotional, perfect music!) and Ron Carmel doing the programming and that is, after seeing it for myself, just flabbergasting.
The set up is so simple: build towers and structures by linking together blobs of (adorable!) goo. Yet, like so many wonderful things in life, this simplicity belies infinite possibility for creativity and boundless strategic and logical campaigns towards your goal and, in the case of games, *re-playability*.
World of Goo features gorgeous design and art which contribute to the wonderful (and very well thought out!) back story as well as the mysterious "sign painter" who offers you hints as you play the game. Goo balls have different properties and capabilities and your job is to select your goo and build towers or structures so you can reach a singular pipe (in each level) through which remaining goos are sucked up and saved. (These remaining, rescued goos are the stars in a separate meta-game called "World of Goo Corporation" which is a tower building endeavor which pitches you against other players logged on the world wide web). The physics of the tumbling, jiggling, falling and swaying goo structures is amazing too! There are a number of small areas which can be improved on. The game features no options menu for sound effects or music and it is not readily obvious (in the PC version) how to play in windowed mode, however there is a shortcut: alt+enter. But these quibbles are small and insignificant to the scope of the game. It's surprising that such a home-spun indie game could work so well, in fact!
I simply can't say enough about World of Goo or praise it highly enough (but I and others like me keep trying!)
Quit reading the reviews and get this game!
Customer Rating: Summary: Best game ever! Comment: This is one of the best games I have ever bought. It's so much fun and the movements are so realistic. I've convinced others to buy it by just letting them try my game. It's worth the money. If you like lemmings, I believe you will love this game. It's kind of like lemmings with a twist :) Customer Rating: Summary: It doesn't get better than this Comment: Don't know how the PC version is, but this little WiiWare game is better than any $50 title out there. It is perfection.
In fact, the only negative thing I have to say about it is that it's too short.
It's not too difficult, and not too easy, but a pleasure from start to finish.
Right now, the game-makers are claiming there will be no sequel, but a world-editor has been made available, so I foresee quite a few levels from the fans coming soon.
If, for some reason, you can't convince yourself to shell out only $20 for this game, then you can download a trial level for free. Believe me, you'll be buying it after trying that sample.
Easily the best game of the decade. Customer Rating: Summary: very fun, very original, cool artwork and idea of the game Comment: Not to rehash what everyone else is saying, but it's a very cool puzzle game and has like a Tim Burton style to the artwork. Control is very easy just using the mouse by clicking and draging. Puzzles aren't too hard to complete (so far... I haven't played it all the way through yet), but get's you repeating levels to get the most goo balls you can from them (basically you can solve a level not too hard, mess up a little, be kinda sloppy, etc., but you can get extra points kinda if you solve them the "best" or most efficient way). Get your over compulsive disorder on!
